Our Wedding Day

As many of you know Gergely is from Hungary and we call Vancouver, BC home. So for our wedding we decided to make it an international affair and headed over to Gergely’s home country.

I’d never been to Hungary before and I don’t speak Hungarian. So planning our wedding from abroad and with the language barrier was a little difficult to say the least. But in the end it was definitely worth it!

With the help of family and friends in Hungary we found the most amazing venue and vendors for our special day.

As Gergely was raised catholic and I was raised christian we decided to have a church wedding. The cathedral that we chose was Mátyás-templom in Budapest, Hungary.

Fun Facts – It was the second largest church of medieval Buda and the seventh largest church of the medieval Hungarian Kingdom. The church was the scene of several coronations, including that of Charles IV in 1916 the last Habsburg King. It was also the site for King Matthias’s two weddings the first to Catherine of Poděbrady and, after her death, to Beatrice of Naples. (Source Wikipedia)

Words cannot describe the beauty that Matthia’s Church is. From the moment you walk into the front doors your breath is taken away. When we had our walk through with the priest I had to focus so hard on listening to him because my eyes were so busy trying to drink everything in. If you ever get the chance to visit beautiful Budapest you should definitely check out this cathedral. You will not be disappointed!

Our reception venue was Spoon the Boat Restaurant. It has a view of the Danube, Buda Castle Palace, and the Chain Bridge. It was pretty cool to have our reception with a view of the cathedral we were just married in! The staff and management helped us every step of the way. When we arrived in Budapest we had a sit down meal at the restaurant to go over final details and see the venue for the first time in person. I have a dairy allergy and they made a special dinner for me both for our sit down and on our wedding day. They even introduced us to our amazing florist.

Our florist was Szirom Virágküldés Budapest. She was AMAZING. I am a pretty particular person and I like everything to be perfect. Planning a wedding from abroad and being particular can be a bit tricky. I would send photo inspirations and she would send back what she was capable of doing. I didn’t get to see anything in person until the day of.  They hand delivered all the flowers for the wedding party to our hotels and set up Spoon the Boat as directed by hand scribbled out, photographed, then emailed pictures. Oh my goodness, perfection!

Between Spoon the Boat Restaurant and Szirom Virágküldés our reception venue looked amazing. It was definitely a dream come true.

To capture the amazing day we had Arts Illustrated Studios simultaneously videotaping and photographing the entire day so that every single moment could be captured. Again the communication from Hungary while we were in Canada was great. We emailed back and forth about creative ideas. When the big day came they gave us exactly what we were looking for.

We couldn’t have been more blessed with the team that came together to make our day the memorable one that it was. We just wanted to give a great big thanks and shout out to all of those involved in creating it.
